| Marc Knowles's visual work explores the theme of evolution. This theme manifests itself by his research in nature's psychedelic motifs. In painting, his main interest is to create a link between the textures of the surface, which is wood, and the image's iconography. The grain of the wooden surface guides the image aesthetically, but also holds a conceptual purpose: the recording of time. In drawing, this theme continues by the repetition of primitive silhouettes set in an imaginary geographic environment. In his latest paintings, figuration loses its importance and the use of wood grain is done in a more minimal fashion. Communication with time is instead created with the symbolism of the shapes and the link they share with each other. |
